Following the founding of the IPC, some questioned its legitimacy outside the country, calling it an entirely domestic measure with no international power. However, the European Court of Human Rights has fully recognized and supported the IPC as a lawful and effective domestic process in multiple landmark cases since 2010 and many more as recent as 2025. Most importantly, it has even directed Greek Cypriots who applied to the ECHR for ownership claims to the IPC, practically mandating all applicants to first settle their disputes with the IPC before taking it up to international law.
This means two things: the properties resolved by the IPC are now fully safe because the owner has been rightfully compensated by international law, and the properties not yet resolved are under direct responsibility and supervision of the IPC per ECHR’s decision and full support of the local government. As a result, North Cyprus property rights are now not only domestically secured by North Cyprus government as before, but internationally, with no responsibility on the buyer’s side.
