On the coast of North Cyprus east of Girne, Esentepe rises from the Mediterranean towards the Beşparmak range. In Turkish the name means "breezy hill", and that is how the village feels: a shoreline, a golf course and a mountain ridge behind, around half an hour from Girne town by the coast road. Owning an apartment is the simplest way to hold a share of that view.

Golf, Beaches and a Slower Pace for Esentepe Apartment Owners

A flat here puts golf and the sea within a few minutes of each other. The Korineum Golf and Beach Resort, an 18-hole championship course set above the sea with a beach club at the water, is the area's best-known address, and a flat nearby can host golfers as well as beach visitors.

Alagadi Turtle Beach, on the coast between Girne and the village, is where loggerhead and green turtles come ashore to nest, and a stretch of shore that is worth a quiet evening walk outside the nesting hours.

Up on the Beşparmak ridge above the village is Buffavento Castle, one of the range's three crusader castles, a short drive and a long view.

Esentepe Flats on the Coastal Strip or in the Upper Village

Below the main road, the coastal strip holds most of the newer complexes and the beach clubs; choose it if being able to walk to the sea is what counts.

Higher up, in the older upper village, flats look out across the coastal plain to the sea, and evenings are cooled by the breeze behind the village's name, at the cost of a short drive to the water.

The neighbouring villages are worth a look on the same trip: Çatalköy, on the Girne side; Bahçeli, a short way east on the same shore; and Tatlısu, further east again. Comparing them is how you find out how far from Girne you want to be.

Esentepe Apartments from Studios to Penthouses

Nearly all the apartments we list in Esentepe are in complexes, from low-rise two-storey buildings to larger developments with their own facilities. They range from studios and one-bedroom flats, the easiest to let, to two- and three-bedroom apartments for families and long stays.

Two layouts deserve attention: garden-floor apartments with a private garden at ground level, and penthouses with a roof terrace and the widest view. Most complexes have a shared pool, and the larger ones add a spa, a gym, a restaurant and, in some cases, a private beach. Some are run with holiday letting in mind.

When you compare complexes, ask how many units are let to holidaymakers and how many are lived in all year, and what the annual maintenance fee covers. The answers tell you what the complex will be like in January as well as in August, and whether the pool and gardens will be kept up while you are away.
